So essentially, Shinji thinking about these "ecchi" things is showing his longing for his mother or a mother figure. In the car scene with Misato and Ritsuko, the background radio says something like "you're looking for a mother you can sleep with in her". Sure, "becoming one" can be interepreted as a carnal/sexual desire, but I thought it was Shinji reflecting on his mother (and how he was "one" with her lmao). I can't speak for the Kaji/Misato scene, but the Misato/Asuka/Rei "harem scene" wasn't purely for fanservice. Totally foreshadowing/foreshadowed that Evas were alive. I find that really interesting, when Shinji talks about how it "smells like blood". The whole concept of blood is quite evident in Evas as well. That vision Shinji had that switched between blue (water) and red (blood) was really showing him trying to "come back to life". I thank IB English lmao.įor the most part, I always thought that both water and blood represented death, but I noticed that blood actually symbolizes a sense of being alive. I felt like I actually understood some shit this episode omfg. Well not really but Shinji has far too deprecating a self image to realize that Misato and SOME of the others care for him beyond that. This episode aslo drives home why Shinji piloting the eva despite the fact that he hates it, it is the only thing he does that gets respect. Also I think the LCL is supposed to be amniotic fluid, basically the clear liquid found in the human womb. Whatever it means about this Rei, the fact that she has that name can be no coincidence. Finally, on a note of interest it seems Rei was the name Gendo wanted to give his child if it was a Girl. Also Shinji decides to come back to life after being almost being absorbed into the Eva because he reached a 400% synchronization rate. Kaji seems to be expecting to be killed off soon, with that line about how the pill might be the LAST present he gives Misato. Evangelions appear to have human souls in them and it is a safe bet based on what Shinji smelled that Unit-01 has his mother’s. "It could be the last"? The pill? Whaa? I'm expecting that it will be explained in the next episode(s). What's with Misato and Kaji? Didn't understand their dialogue and the end (beginning and middle I understand). Anyway, I had more problems understanding the end of the episode. Partaly because it's been hinted already, but I do have an "unfair" advantage because I know how these people think. But that takes courage and self-confidance because if you value your own decision which doesn't match with others you have to fight for your belief and that hurts. Insted of relying on other for his own value. He has to decide, on his own, and on his standards, his self-worth. This creates an impossible problem to solve: you can't please everyone. Of the few posts I read no-one mentioned how it's more of the same - he values himself based on how much everyone around him sees him.
Primal urges is the harem, and the rest is more of Shinji's insecurity. But as this psychological drama unfolds, ancient secrets beneath the big picture begin to bubble to the surface.I wish I understood what the preview at the end said. Written by Hideaki Anno, Neon Genesis Evangelion is a heroic tale of a young boy who will become a legend. Face to face with his father for the first time in years, 14-year-old Shinji Ikari's average life is irreversibly changed when he is whisked away into the depths of Nerv, and into a harrowing new destiny-he must become the pilot of Evangelion Unit-01 with the fate of mankind on his shoulders. Aiding in this defensive endeavor are talented personnel Misato Katsuragi, Head of Tactical Operations, and Ritsuko Akagi, Chief Scientist. Gendou Ikari, head of the organization, seeks compatible pilots who can synchronize with the Evangelions and realize their true potential. Humanity's last hope lies in the hands of Nerv, a special agency under the United Nations, and their Evangelions, giant machines capable of defeating the Angels who herald Earth's ruin. In the year 2015, the world stands on the brink of destruction.
